Beeches are a Scottish indie/alternative band based in Edinburgh. The band consists of Oscar Gormley (vocals/guitar), Walter Kemp Bruce (drums), Robert Igoe (vocals/guitar) and Amadeus Brzezinski (bass). They have been described in the past as “tight musicianship with perfect pop melodies”. The four piece have been active since 2012 but their roots stem from very early childhood friendships. Robert, Oscar and Walter have been friends since pre primary school days, retaining a close friendship despite all studying at different schools. They started writing music together in 2010 as “Chordless Beaches”. The original band was together for years but never went any further than bedroom jams and camcorded sessions.
In 2012 the band met Amadeus and asked him to play bass for their song “Sands” which was recorded and published on Facebook. The video got a great response and the inklings of a fanbase began to form.
By February 2013 the band had decided to record a two track single at Bannana Row studios which received a fantastic worldwide response on YouTube and Bandcamp, was reviewed on several independent music blogs. Throughout the year the band began to churn out original songs and clock the Edinburgh scene by playing at venues such as Cabaret Voltaire, Studio 24 and Electric Circus.
During the autumn months of 2013 the band were busy recording two tracks at the prestigious Castle Sound studios and the Depot studios funded with the YMI initiative. “Young Soul” will be their first official Single under the name “Beeches” and is due for release early 2014.
